Will writing & estate planning

Take care of tomorrow today.

Hi, I'm Victoria. Most people put a will off because it feels grim, or complicated, or like something for later. The trouble is that "later" is exactly the problem: without a will, the law decides who inherits, and that is rarely what you'd have chosen. I make it calm and clear. We talk it through, I draft it properly, and the same person looks after you the whole way. Your first consultation is free, at home or over video, whichever suits you.

About Victoria

Hello, I'm Victoria Broom.

I qualified as a will writer through The College of Will Writing in January 2026, and Broom & Co Wills is the home I'm building for that work.

I came to it because the most important document most people ever sign, the one that decides who looks after their children and what happens to their home, is too often rushed, copied from a template, or written by someone the family will never speak to again.

My promise is a simple one. The person you meet at your free consultation is the person who drafts your will, witnesses your signing, and stays your point of contact for years to come. We meet wherever works for you: your home, somewhere quiet nearby, or over video. I take the time to do this properly, and I tell you plainly what I can do, and just as plainly what I can't.

Qualifications & standards SWWEPP Introduction to Wills & Estate Planning Certificate, awarded by The College of Will Writing on 27 January 2026. Member of the Society of Will Writers. The Broom & Co. Way

Three promises, on every will, every time.

01

The same person, every time.

The person who sits with you at the first meeting is the one who drafts your will, watches you sign it, and picks up the phone when you call years later. One point of contact, from the first conversation onwards. No call centre, no being passed around.

02

In your home, on your time.

I come to you, wherever that is, and there's no charge for the visit. Evenings and weekends if they suit you better, or a video call if you'd rather stay put. You don't travel to me, and you don't fit around office hours.

03

Plain English, properly drafted.

A will is only worth having if you understand it. I explain what every clause does, why it's there, and what would happen without it. You sign nothing you're unsure about, and you never feel rushed into it.

How it works

From first call to signed will, in three simple steps.

Most clients are signed within about ten days of getting in touch. There's no charge for the consultation, no commitment to go ahead, and no rush at any stage.

01

Book your free consultation

Call, email, or use the form below. I'll come back to you within one working day with a sensible time to talk, usually that same week.

02

We talk it through

Up to an hour together, wherever suits you: at home, somewhere quiet nearby, or over a video call. We cover what you want your will to do, who matters, and anything worth thinking about. Free, and no pressure to go ahead.

03

Sign with confidence

I bring your draft back and walk it through clause by clause. When you're happy, and only then, we witness the signing properly. Secure storage is available if you'd like your original kept safe.

Adding Lasting Powers of Attorney? Here's that journey too.

LPAs are prepared just as personally, but they involve one extra party: the Office of the Public Guardian, who must register your LPAs before they can be used.

  1. Talk it throughWe discuss the decisions you want covered and who you'd like to appoint.
  2. Documents preparedI prepare your chosen LPA documents and explain every relevant choice.
  3. Sign correctlyYou get clear instructions covering the correct signing and witnessing order.
  4. Final document checkI check your completed documents before anything is submitted.
  5. Submit and pay the OPGYou submit your LPAs and pay the registration fees directly to the Office of the Public Guardian, with plain instructions from me.
  6. OPG registrationThe OPG processes your application. Online applications typically take around 8 to 12 weeks; paper applications can take longer.
Services

What I do, and what I honestly hand on.

Everything below sits within my qualified scope and is drafted by me directly. For specialist work such as probate, contentious matters, or complex inheritance tax planning, I'll introduce you to people I trust rather than pretend it's mine to do. You'll find every price on the price list further down the page.

Single Will

A clear, properly drafted will for one person. It sets out your executors, your beneficiaries, any specific gifts, guardians for children under 18, and how the rest of your estate passes on. Includes a home visit, clear signing guidance, and an executor pack.

Mirror Wills (couple)

Two matching wills for spouses or partners, where you each leave things in broadly the same way. It's the most common starting point for couples, and often the conversation that opens up other things worth thinking about, from guardians to protecting a share of the home.

Lasting Power of Attorney

Property & Financial Affairs, and Health & Welfare. Prepared personally by me, with clear guidance on signing, witnessing, and registering with the Office of the Public Guardian. This is the document that lets someone you trust step in if illness or an accident ever leaves you unable to decide for yourself, which is why it often matters more than your will during your lifetime.

Property Protection Trust

For couples who want to protect a half-share of the family home for their chosen beneficiaries, while making sure the surviving partner can carry on living there for as long as they need. Drafted within your will.

Discretionary Trust (within Will)

A flexible trust over the value of your nil rate band, for families who want trustees to make decisions about money over time rather than hand it all over at once. A Letter of Wishes is drafted alongside it to guide them.

Severance of Tenancy

Where a couple owns a property as joint tenants, severing the tenancy is the first step towards protecting each person's share. It covers the notice of severance and the HM Land Registry Form A restriction.

Will Storage

Secure storage for your original will: £30 a year, or £150 for lifetime storage. Your original is indexed and kept safe, with a clear process for your executors to retrieve it when the time comes. Lifetime storage of both wills is included in the Complete Couple Protection Package.

Executor Support Guide

A plain-English guide left with every will, so the people you choose to wind up your estate know what to do, and who to call, on the day. It comes as standard, at no extra cost.

In their own words

What clients say.

Word of mouth is the marketing that matters most in this work. Below are the kinds of things early clients have said. We'll replace these with named reviews as they come in, and we will never invent one.

Victoria came to us at home, sat with us for an hour, and explained things in a way our solicitor never had. We finally feel like we've sorted it.

Resources & guides

Plain-English guides on what every family should know.

A small library of short, honest guides to the questions families ask most often. The ones below are ready to read now. If there's something specific you'd like me to write about, tell me at the bottom of the page.

More guides are on the way, including inheritance tax for ordinary estates, choosing executors, and what to leave alongside your will. Subscribe via the contact form to hear when each one publishes.

Common questions

Things people often ask.

Do I need a will?

If you have children, a partner, a property, or anything you'd want to reach a particular person, then yes. Without a will, the state decides who inherits, and the answer is rarely the one families would have chosen.

What happens if I die without a will?

The intestacy rules apply. Spouses and civil partners inherit first, within statutory limits, then children, then more distant relatives. Unmarried partners inherit nothing. Stepchildren inherit nothing.

The rules are blunt and impersonal, which is exactly why a will exists.

How long does the whole process take?

For a standard single or mirror will, it's usually two appointments and around ten days from first consultation to signed document. LPAs are prepared just as quickly, but they can't be used until the Office of the Public Guardian has registered them. Online applications typically take around 8 to 12 weeks to register, and paper applications can take longer. That's the OPG's processing time, not mine, and I'll always be straight with you about where things stand.

Do I need to come to an office?

There isn't one, and you don't need one. I come to you at home, meet somewhere quiet if you'd prefer, or we talk over video. Whichever works for you. There's no charge for me to travel to you.

What does the free consultation actually cover?

Up to an hour of your time, talking through your situation, what you'd like your will to do, and whether anything more involved (a trust, an LPA, or severance of tenancy) is worth considering. No charge, no pressure, no commitment to go ahead.

Are you regulated?

Will writing in England & Wales isn't a "reserved legal activity", so it isn't regulated by the SRA in the way solicitors are. It's fair to ask, and you always should.

Broom & Co Wills is a member of the Society of Will Writers, holds full Professional Indemnity, Public Liability and Cyber insurance, and I'm qualified through the SWWEPP Introduction to Wills & Estate Planning Certificate. We're registered with the Information Commissioner's Office and follow the SWW Code of Practice.

What if my situation is more complicated than a standard will?

I'm honest about scope. Probate, contentious matters, complex inheritance tax planning, business property relief, and lifetime trusts all sit outside what I offer at Broom & Co. I'll refer those to specialists I trust, and I'll make the introduction for you.

What does your LPA fee include?

Your consultation, preparation of the LPA documents you choose, clear signing and witnessing guidance, a final check of the completed documents before submission, and plain registration instructions. It doesn't include the Office of the Public Guardian's registration fee, which is £92 per LPA and paid by you directly to the OPG.

Who submits and pays for my LPAs?

You do, and I make it straightforward. I prepare the documents, explain the signing order, check everything before it goes off, and give you clear registration instructions. You then submit the completed documents to the Office of the Public Guardian and pay the registration fees directly to them: £92 per LPA, so £184 for both types for one person, or £368 for both types for a couple. Some people qualify for a reduction or exemption based on their financial circumstances.

When can my attorneys use an LPA?

Not until the Office of the Public Guardian has registered it. Once registered, a Health & Welfare LPA can only be used when you can't make the relevant decision yourself. Whether a Property & Financial Affairs LPA can be used before then depends on the choice you make in the document.

Do you store my will?

Secure storage is available for £30 a year, or £150 for lifetime storage. Your original is indexed and kept safe, with a clear process for your executors to retrieve it when the time comes. Lifetime storage of both wills is included in the Complete Couple Protection Package.

What is included in the Complete Couple Protection Package?

Mirror wills, both types of Lasting Power of Attorney for each of you (four LPAs in total), lifetime storage of both wills, and everything that goes with them: personal preparation, signing guidance, a final check of your LPA documents, and clear registration instructions. The package is £995. Four OPG registration fees totalling £368 are payable separately and directly to the OPG, which makes the total client commitment £1,363.

How is your pricing decided?

I keep wills priced keenly, and that's on purpose. A will is the one thing people put off for years, and the cost of it should never be the reason. So a single will is £190, and mirror wills for a couple are £290. That includes the home visit and the executor pack I leave for the people you choose.

The more involved work, like a lasting power of attorney or a trust to protect a share of your home, is priced to match what it takes to get right. You'll always know the figure before you commit to anything.

And if money's tight, I'd rather point you to a good, cheaper option than rush your will. There are decent ones out there. Just ask.
